Vitamin D2 Ergocalciferol

Ergocalciferol, also known as vitamin D2 and calciferol, is a type of vitamin D found in food and used as a dietary supplement. As a supplement, it is used to prevent and treat vitamin D deficiency. This includes vitamin D deficiency due to poor absorption by the intestines or liver disease. Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium. Vitamin D2 is used to treat hypoparathyroidism (decreased functioning of the parathyroid glands). Vitamin D2 is also used to treat rickets (softening of the bones caused by vitamin D deficiency) or low levels of phosphate in the blood (hypophosphatemia).
